Caring for ALS Patients:
A Guide with Love

Taking care of ALS patients is truly a special task. If you're an ALS caregiver or a loved one, you're touching their life and improving their quality of living. Here are some tips to help you on this journey...

First, Understand the Nature of the Disease

Understanding the disease will help you better meet your patient's needs. ALS is a condition that causes people to gradually lose muscle control. It typically appears between ages 55-75 and leads to loss of muscle control due to the death of motor neurons.

Notice the Changes

Try to notice even small changes in your patient's condition. For example, are they falling more frequently? Are they struggling to speak? Tracking symptoms helps you intervene in a timely manner.

In advanced stages, these symptoms may appear:

- Skin problems
- Urinary incontinence
- Behavioral changes
- Difficulty breathing
