Establish a Bedtime Ritual

A consistent bedtime routine provides a sense of security and makes it easier for your little one to fall asleep. Doing the same calming activities each night helps them understand that bedtime is approaching.

  • Give them a warm bath at the same time every night. Water has a soothing effect and helps them relax.
  • Read a bedtime story in dim lighting or look at picture books together.
  • A gentle massage with a calming baby oil, such as lavender, can also be helpful.
  • Play a lullaby or soft, soothing music to ease them into sleep.

This routine signals to your child that it’s time for bed and creates a sense of comfort. The key is to be consistent—children thrive on routine!

It’s Not Easy, But Stay Calm and Patient

Postpone transitioning to a big-kid bed: Many parents switch their child to a larger bed around age two, but major changes during this phase can disrupt their sleep even more. If possible, wait until they’re around four years old. In the meantime, placing a favorite stuffed animal or blanket next to them can provide comfort.

Be patient: This phase is temporary! Remember to take care of yourself, too. Let someone else help with childcare when needed, so you can rest and recharge. Consider hiring a babysitter  to make things easier. The last thing you want is to end up dealing with burnout! Be gentle with both yourself and your child during this time.
